Twenty-year-old local female cocoa farmer Agnes Pilopaso is very excited about the possibility of being a serious cocoa exporter.
She is a participant of the Cocoa and chocolate week currently underway in Honiara and has brought along samples of her cocoa beans to be judged in the program.
Speaking to SIBC News today, Agnes who began working at her father\’s farms when she was in form three, says she has learnt a lot from the program and stressed her future is with cocoa farming.
\”I became a farmer since my third form until now and I\’ve seen that there is a good earning from cocoa and nowadays people sell their land instead of farming the land as they can earn a good living from farming.\”
Today, her family\’s farm situated East of Guadalcanal, has a hundred and 75 hectares of seven different varieties of cocoa.
Agnes looks forward to tomorrow when they will announce the awards for local farmers whose cocoa beans will be recommended for overseas buyers.
