The United States Government has announced it will provide an additional 1-hundred and 50-thousand US dollars for the delivery of emergency relief items and water, sanitation and hygiene assistance for disaster-affected communities on Guadalcanal.

A statement from the United States Consular Agent to Solomon Islands office confirmed the assistance over the weekend.

It adds Save the Children is the new implementing organisation for the US disaster relief assistance with a new total of 2-hundred and 50-thousand US dollars.

On 4 April, U.S. Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Walter North issued a disaster declaration to support the immediate relief efforts to counter the effects of the floods in the Solomon Islands.

The U.S. Agency for International Development, USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance, OFDA, will work with Save the Children to provide non-food humanitarian assistance.

The previously announced partner, the French Red Cross, is assisting disaster relief efforts using a different financial source.
