Two Solomon Islanders have been announced among the winners of its World Tuna Day Art and Talent Quest.

A first Prize of 3-thousand US dollars was awarded to Derek Futaiasi for his poem “Here I speak, Here I cry” – a poem about politics, policy and sustainability from the perspective of tunas.

Joanna Kenilorea-Hanu won a runner-up prize of 5-hundred US dollars for her creative fiction on the theme of sustainability and ownership of tuna, dramatised through the relationship of a grandmother with her granddaughter.

In a statement, PNA Director Dr Transform Aqorau said the winning stories are a reminder to Pacific Islanders of all the cultural, political and economic importance of the region\’s tuna.

Other winners of the competition were from Palau and Marshall Islands.
