A one day seminar to improve community prosperity in finding the uses of senile coconuts concludes yesterday at the Ministry of Forestry Office.
The seminar was part of an Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research funded project to improve community prosperity by finding uses for senile coconuts.
In his opening speech, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Forestry Barnabas Anga highlighted key Government policies and issues, working in collaboration with innovative partnership in the wood industry in terms of developing the resources.
Mr Anga says uses of senile coconut stems will encourage land-owners to grow newer and more productive coconut varieties.
Meanwhile, Gregory Nolan Associate Professor from the University of Tasmania\’s Centre for Sustainable Architecture with Wood says coconut veneer is among most valuable products.
A statement from the Secretariat of Pacific Community in Honiara says the seminar was attended by local landowners, other Government Ministry and representatives from the timber industry.
