Gella Islands in Central Islands Province has yesterday elected its new Paramount Chief – he is Hon. Bartholomew Parapolo.
Hon. Parapolo was nominated alongside Reverend John Talisi for the post.
Tribal Chiefs, Church, Provincial and traditional Leaders congregated at Longapolo village for the democratic process of choosing their Paramount Chief.
Reports reaching SIBC News late yesterday afternoon said Parapolo polled 27 votes while Reverend Talisi polled 21 votes.
The Islands were without a Paramount Chief after the Late Reverend Bishop Charles Koete passed on about five years ago.
