MV CHANELLA\’s FORMER OWNER SUED

The Solomon Islands Maritime Association is suing the former owner of the vessel MV Chanella for violating the Maritime Act.

This was during a trip the vessel made from Noro, Western Province en route to Temotu province, December last year.

SIMSA Director, Captain Tim Harris told SIBC News the vessel was seriously overloaded with passengers at the time.

He said maritime ordered the vessel into Honiara port and conducted a head count of the passengers on board and confirmed the vessel was indeed over load.

Maritime then filed a case against the owner of Fair Trade company for breaching the Maritime Act.

On Wednesday this week, the case appeared before the High Court for a mention. It was adjourned generally.

SIBC News understands, the vessel has recently been sold to Lauru Shipping and renamed MV Nuatambu.
