While acknowledging the 100 percent increase of the previous 4 dollars legal minimum wage rate to 8 dollars this year, Deputy Leader of opposition, Peter Kenilorea Junior said, this should have been approached differently by carefully considering all stakeholders.
MP Kenilorea said, it should have been done in phases so that organisations and employers affected prepare for it, while the government\’s end game is tax collection centric.
He said this sharp increase will backfire as affected stakeholders begin laying off employees.
The new Legal Minimum wage rate comes into effects as of August 1st 2019.
