HEALTH OF SIDS OCEANS REMAIN TOP PRIORITY OF PACIFIC: MAELANGA

Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga says the health of Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) oceans and the sustainability of resources continues to remain our joint priority.

Minister Maelanga says Ocean acidification is an eminent and chronic threat to the economies, livelihoods and cultures of SIDS therefore, supports efforts to monitor and address the impact of ocean acidification.

Mr Maelanga calls for an effective recognition of SIDS sovereign rights and privileges as provided for in the international law to manage our limited resources.

He says, human resource continue to remain our most significant asset- threatened by health issues particularly non-communicable diseases.

The Deputy Prime Minister says, Solomon Islands future lies in investment in the areas of renewable energy, agriculture, fisheries, eco-tourism, ICT , connectivity and mining.

Solomon Islands hopes the current UN priorities for the Pacific can now be aligned to members respective National Sustainable Development Strategies.
