The Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) and World Health Organization (WHO) have hosted an interfaith conference on health promotion for non-communicable disease prevention.

Dr Tenneth Dalipanda, Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services told participants, churches and other faith-based institutions are critical partners for improving health in Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile, churches and faith-based organizations have agreed to support each other through information, resource, and experience sharing.

They have also discussed establishing a “health promotion interfaith council” to drive the collaborative partnership with the Health Ministry.

The Organisations also said they recognise the need to work together with Government Health Agencies to connect health promotion, NCD prevention, and other public health issues into existing faith-based and church programs.

Over 30 representatives from various faith-based institutions and churches attended the two-day workshop last week.
