Health authorities in Gizo, Western Province have called on people in the province to destroy potential breeding sites of the dengue mosquito by cleaning up their surroundings.

As of yesterday, a total of 96 dengue cases has been reported at the Gizo Hospital, of which 23 are positive.

Hospital Director, Dr Gregory Gilini says people need to discard any water-filled containers to eliminate possible breeding sites for the mosquito during this outbreak.

\”I think what the public should take note of is just to clean their surroundings and not to allow empty containers, tins and artificial containers that can collect water allowing mosquitos to breed, so the advice is for people to keep their surroundings clean and to sleep under a mosquito net at night.\”
