A former Senior Road Machine Operator under the Roads and Bridges section of the Ministry of Transport, Works and Utility is gravely concerned over what he describes as \’very poor road maintenance\’ in Honiara.

The former Machine Operator who requested anonymity says, the problem is that the awarding of road repairs were given to the same contractors whose work do little to improve the road conditions.

He adds, sad still, most contractors engage unskilled labors who have limited knowledge on road patches, tar sealing, re-structuring, and compaction.

The experienced road worker says, in the past, roads repairs last up to almost 10 years.

Meanwhile, the former Senior Machine Operator urged the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to consider other bidders when awarding road repair contracts for possible changes of our road condition.

He says this is to avoid wasting tax payers money.
