The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and UNICEF have today launched a Pilot Literacy Research Program into a number of primary schools in Guadalcanal Province.

The program is implemented under the UNICEF Pacific Baseline Research on Primary School Teacher Capacity.

Head of the program, Professor Daniel Lavan says they want to assess teachers daily teaching capability in the classrooms.

\”Officers engaged by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, supported by UNICEF have today started a literacy research in seven schools from Ghaobata Ward, Malango Ward, and East Tasimboko Ward. According to the Head of the research group Professor Daniel Lavan, a consultant from Canada, says the research looks at what teachers are doing in class daily when teaching English and Mathematics for grades one and two pupils,\”

SIBC News understands the literacy research program expects to cover other schools in the country in its next phase.
