Cigarettes have just gotten expensive, as the Finance Minister Rick Hou announces an increased excise duty of 10 per cent on all manufactured and imported tobacco products.
A Government Communication Unit says the Government sees that, raising the price of tobacco product through taxation was the most effective way to reduce tobacco consumption, and related diseases.
Following the increase yesterday, cigarette vendors have been selling 25-pack cigarette packets at $40 and $50.
