The current bad weather is cutting off communities in North East Guadalcanal from access to basic needs.

Heavy rains and strong winds hit Guadalcanal and other parts of the country again last week, over the weekend and this week following a monsoon trough found next to Rennell Island on Sunday morning.

Chief Alfred Lova from the Ghaobata House of Chiefs said the weather and lack of proper roads in the area worries his people as they try to purchase foods in Honiara.

\”We have a hard time, all vehicles are having trouble crossing the rivers, having nowhere to go because the only roads are covered with water. In this way we at least survive, especially getting to Honiara for our basic needs. The floods have also prevented us from selling our surplus at the market in town. Even the food spoiled by the floods will rot away as our transport systems were disabled by the floods\”, said chief Lova.
