Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast says he is confident that Police Officers who had served at the Solomon Islands-Papua New Guinea border will perform their duties as required during the election.

The police officers, along with a number of former field force officers, had been part of a 400 strong force who had served at the border during the Bougainville crisis.

Representatives of the former field force officers had this week claimed they are proposing a stand-off together with police officers who served during the crisis to protest the Government\’s non-payment of their claims.

The proposed stand-off includes not taking part in next month\’s general elections.

But at a media conference today, Police Commissioner Prendergast says he is confident the police officers will perform their duties effectively during the election.

\”I am also confident that the current serving officers in the RSIPF who involved in that claim industrially will perform their duties as required during the election, so if you\’re asking that am I concerned  that they won\’t, I am not. I believe the RSIPF officers will perform their duties effectively and I believe that the other issues are being dealt with effectively.\”
