The Honiara City Mayor, Councillor Andrew Mua says Honiara City has been at the forefront of a remarkable transformation since Solomon Islands attained self-government 36 years ago.
Speaking during Monday\’s official ceremony, Mr Mua said from a humble town, Honiara has grown substantially into a hustling and bustling city.
Mr Mua said however, the rapid transformation had likewise created greater pressure in addressing issues on rapid population growth, urbanization, unemployment and increasing demand for Council services.
He said with the help of its development partners, the Honiara City Council has been pro-actively addressed these issues through effective and efficient governance and urban management programs.
