After a months-long investigation, police in Guadalcanal have charged a woman with concealing the birth of her baby at GPPOL 2 in the Guadalcanal plains.
The baby\’s body was found opposite a clinic in the area in September.
Police Commissioner Matthew Varley said the investigation into the incident was sensitive to the 30-year-old woman from Choiseul Province, who was undergoing various treatments and counseling at the Christian Care Centre at Tenaru.
The woman was remanded in custody on December 1 for 14 days and is expected to appear in court on December 15.
The court case will allege that the woman gave birth in the area and left the baby there, Mr Varley said.
\”At this point in time, the investigation is inconclusive as to whether the baby was alive at the time the mother left the baby,\” he said. \”But for the circumstances of the offence under 220 of the Penal Code, that\’s an irrelevant matter.\”
