Solomon Islands has renewed its commitment towards preventing corruption.

The government made the commitment during last week\’s Anti-Corruption Conference of State Parties (CoSP) in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The Government\’s National Focal Point for the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), Derek Futaiasi informed the Conference Solomon Islands\’ commitment reinstated since the beginning of this year can be attributed largely to the unwavering commitment and strong leadership by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

Mr Futaiasi says Prime Minister Sogavare will table the country\’s Anti-Corruption Bill early next year to be enacted by Parliament.

Meanwhile, Mr Futaiasi also acknowledged the support by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through the UN Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption Project, the Australian Government with its financial assistance and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission of Timor-Leste.
