The Permanent Secretary for Culture and Tourism, John Wasi has called on school children and young people in Solomon Islands to give attention to national museums and learn about the country.

He said the museum is an important sector of society and nation building.

He also said in the National Museum tells a living story of the nation – of its people, what we are in the past and  how we will forge the future.

\”Today it is very sad to see that museums were not given much-needed attention as we would like to. The Museum in Solomon Islands is not only fully utilised by our children and by our educational fraternity. Children may choose to go to a computer or DVD shop to get movies, but today I encourage all students to make use of what is available in the museum to learn about our country, our past, our present and how we will shape the future of Solomon Islands.\”

The theme for the International Museum Day, this year was \”Museum for a Sustainable Society\”.
