10 MALAITA COMMUNITIES TO BENEFIT FROM USAID PROJECT

Ten communities in Malaita province will benefit from the USAID Coastal Community Adaptation Project.

The project was officially launched at Lilisiana community near Auki Thursday this week.

US Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, Catherine Ebert-Grey who launched the project told a media conference the United States was pleased to work closely with Malaita province on this project to increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change.

She said the partnership will see the people of the 10 communities construct 40 rainwater harvesting systems.

The US Agency for International Development through its Coastal Community Adaptation Project began working with the communities in 2014.

The communities are Lilisiana, Kwai, Ngongosila, New Kaloaka, North Dala, South Dala, Fiu, Buma, Radefasu and Oibola who have faced water problems for the past decade.

US Ambassador Ebert-Grey left the country yesterday.
